The Eye Clinics of South Texas are fortunate to have on their staff a Board Certified Ophthalmologist, Jay M. Rubin, M.D. To give you a little information on his background, Dr. Rubin is a second generation eye care professional. He was born in the city of Hallettsville, Texas. His undergraduate degree, a BA in Biology with Honors, was obtained at the University of Texas in Austin. To continue his education, his Medical Degree was earned in Houston at Baylor College of Medicine. As a requirement for acquiring a specialty in Ophthalmology, Dr. Rubin returned to Austin to work in Brackenridge Hospital as an intern taking care of a multiple medical issues from heart attacks, appendectomies, and delivering babies. Dr. Rubin then traveled to San Antonio, to complete his ophthalmology residency. Dr. Rubin and family fell in love with the city of San Antonio, and have made it home.
Dr. Rubin and the Eye Clinics of South Texas are have been in San Antonio for over 20 years providing eye care to many in the South Texas region and beyond. Patients have benefitted from Routine eye exams for spectacles and contacts, to treatment for cataracts, glaucoma, and retinopathy. We have seen cataract surgery technology change over the years and offer the new femto-laser cataract surgery as well as the new extended depth of focus lens that assist in seeing a range of distances.
